For many years the William Daniel Lay (1875-1966) family occupied the house located at 180 Brevard Street in Maysville.  Believed to have been built circa 1890, the early history of the house has not yet been documented.

"Will" Lay married "Sallie" Garrison on 28 Dec 1896 in Jackson Co. GA.  Together they had four girls: Nelle, Amy, Sara and Hilda.  Three of the four girls became school teachers.  Sallie, their mother, died at age 54, leaving Will with three girls under 18.  Will then married widow Rose Henderson and moved into her house at 46 Homer Street in Maysville.  It is not known whether all four of Will's daughters moved with him to Rose's house, but perhaps oldest daughter Nelle stayed in the house on Brevard Street.

Current owners Frank and Donna Chesonis bought the home from the Lay family in 1988.  The Chesonises have restored the home and opened it up for guests during the 2008 Victorian Maysville Christmas Tour of Homes.  Chesonis said the house has had several additions over the years and has some spectacular acreage surrounding it.  A wonderful wisteria vine some fifty years old stands next to the house.
