Site Donors

VictorianMaysville.com is a non-profit website designed and maintained by Todd Dorsey.  A native of Maysville, Todd's interest in documenting Maysville's history started as a history project for the Jackson County High School History Club in 1981.  Over the years Todd has documented interviews with the late Mary Arnold, Perino Boswell, Dorothy Strange, Joseph Lyle, Tom Telford, and Effie Strange, to name a few.  Interviews with those still living include Lucille Sims, Julia Savage, Talmadge Savage, Betty Brooks, James Brooks, Lois Harper, Pete Mintz, Jack Lewis, Smith Pounds, and Clarence Smith, among others.  Todd plans to eventually write a book on Maysville's history.

The mission of this site includes:

• An online presence to educate others about Maysville's rich history

• An opportunity to reach those family members or related parties who may have additional information to share about Maysville

• A means of organizing research and information for the future publication of a book on Maysville's history

• An avenue to promote current events and document past events

This mission involves considerable time and expense.  Currently,  a campaign is underway to help cover the cost of the following:

• A new $250 laptop from Walmart to be used to store Maysville history files and photos as well as store the Microsoft web design software used to build this site.  The current laptop is five years old and the CD Rom drive and some keys no longer work.

• A handheld $200 Sony digital camcorder from Amazon to be used to film interviews and record tours of the town.  Currently, no recording equipment is available to conduct interviews.

• A $60 upgrade to the 2011 version of Family Tree Maker software which is used to store the Maysville Family Tree records.  The 2005 version is currently being used.

In addition, the monthly hosting fee for this website is $20, which has been covered by Todd Dorsey since inception in 2001.  The Maysville Community Improvement Club donated $250 in 2008 to cover web-hosting for that year.

There are three ways you can help support this website:

1. General Display Advertising: Box ads are available starting at $25 per month for the home page and $10 per month for other pages.  There is no minimum commitment, so these ads work well for small businesses, yard sales, real estate, political campaigns, etc.

2. Donor Plaques: Individuals, organizations or businesses may make a one-time donation to this website.  For each $10 donated, a donor "plaque" will be created and displayed below in the donor gallery.

3. Virtual Memorial Garden Flowers:  Individuals may purchase a "virtual flower" in memory of a lost, loved one to be placed in our Virtual Memorial Garden.  Each "flower" costs only $5 and remains on the site indefinitely.  Donors may buy as many "flowers" as they wish, but each "flower" can only represent one individual.
