"My name is Fern---just like the plant," beamed Fern Durham as her picture was made at the Maysville Community Improvement Club’s second annual Garden Party.  She and friend Janet Ilcheson, of Piedmont SC, stopped while passing through from Sims Pottery in Gillsville.  "We love flowers and couldn't resist the chance to stop and look," Ilcheson said.

The Maysville Community Improvement Club held the garden party in Veterans Park downtown to allow local greenhouses and nurseries a chance to sell their plants.  Typical plants for sale included verbenia, petunias, cacti, herbs and hostas, among others.
The Maysville United Methodist Church sponsored a chicken-que and promptly sold out of the 200 plates prepared before the lunch hour even arrived. The church also had a yard sale where each item was only fifty cents.
The Community Club offered hula hoop fun, face painting and marigolds for the kids and sold refreshments.  Musical group "Linger Longers" provided entertainment.

Travis Boles fiddles with the "Linger Longers." Pearl Oppenheimer, 5, of Maysville, practices her hula-hoop skills.
