Model A Car Show

Maysville, GA, Saturday, June 3, 2006--As I stood in my driveway this morning, I wondered why so many old Ford Model A cars were passing by.  Having a father who is a postman always helps since he knows a lot of people I don't and gets local news that I haven't heard.
   So it was to my surprise to learn that Mike Butcher, living on Model A Lane about a mile down the street from me, was having a car show today.  Mike had mentioned it to my dad and even invited him.  So after Dad ran the mail this morning, off we went to Model A Lane.  I wore flip flops thinking there would just be a few cars and a few dozen locals milling around in a field.  Boy was I wrong!
   There were 78 cars and a couple hundred people from all over the southeast there.  As it turned out, Mike was hosting the "Third Annual Grandfather's Day Model A Car Show."  You see, Mike Butcher owns a business called Mike's "A" Ford-Able Parts.  He specializes in selling Model A Ford Parts 1928-1931.  His parts store even sits right on his land close to his home.  The store looks like a big house on the outside but on the inside you'll find a full-time business offering walk-in, catalog and internet parts sales.
   Seems Mike's got plenty of help from the family, too, as they were all busy as bees helping customers find parts while I visited.  A board Mike calls his "Bragg Board" displayed numerous emails and letters from happy customers.  A photo board displayed press coverage the business had received as well as a number of before and after pictures of car restoration projects and snapshots of various Model A's "posing."
   Outside, BBQ lunch tickets were a hot item and over a hundred people stood in line to receive their meal.  The event was catered by Strickland's BBQ of Maysville.
