1909-0722 JH:  This is Great. Just Read it Please. The Money People. A leading New York financial journal has taken the pains to make up a Roll of Honor from the State Banks in the United States, excluding all but the State Banks. It appears that there are about 12,000 of this class of banks chartered, and of these, 470 are in the state of Georgia. That bank having the largest amount of surplus and profits, as compared with its capital, is No. 1, and so on down the line. The New York Financier calls this its “Roll of Honor Bank.” It is worthy of note that the Bank of Tifton, Tifton, Ga., stands as No. 1 in this state, and as seventh in the United States. This is sister bank of the Farmers & Traders Bank, in Atlanta, which stands 13th in the state and 181st in the United States. The Bank of Louisville, Louisville, Ga., stands 15th in the state, and the Bank of Millen 17th. All of these banks are Witham Banks. This is creditable, considering that this class of banks numbers about 500. –Atlanta Georgian. The Bank of Maysville, Maysville, Ga., is a Witham Bank, and enjoys all the advantages of such. The great strength of the Witham System is at our disposal at all times—a backing of something like $750,000. This is worth considering when distributing your banking favors. Deposits insured.
