Sarepta notes on MBC

Maysville Baptist Church's first pastorium was a house which once stood adjacent to the church at the corner of Cross and Homer Streets.  Rev. Theron Miller was apparently the last person to occupy the house since The Anderson Independent newspaper documented completion of a new pastorium about 1961.  Rev. Miller was pastor at that time.  Little is known about the origin of the house.  If you can answer any of the questions below, please contact the webmaster.

Who built the house that was used as the Maysville Baptist parsonage prior to 1961?  When was it built?  Was it built to be a parsonage or was it occupied by families unrelated to the church?  If so, what families?  If you have additional pictures of the old pastorium, please contact the webmaster.  The webmaster would also like to know if the pastorium completed in 1961 on Fair Street is still in use by the church.  Does anyone have a photo of that pastorium?

Maysville pastorium completed
The (Anderson) Independent (circa 1961)

Maysville, Ga.—The Maysville Baptist Church at Maysville has recently completed its new pastorium, and open house will be held on Easter Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.  The new pastorium, located one block from the church, replaces a house beside the church, now to be used for educational space.  A modified ranch-style home, the new building includes a living-dining room, three bedrooms, two baths, kitchen-family room and pastor’s study.

The building committee was composed of O. G. Ariail, chairman, M. F. Jarrett, J. T. Miller, T. G. O’Kelley, Roy Brooks and R. L. Presley.  Rev. Theron Miller is pastor of the church.

William "Bill" Sailers writes:  "The house immediately next to the church at the corner of Cross Street and Homer Street was the Parsonage. It was abandoned for a short period when the new Parsonage was built. The old building was used for Sunday School Class for the boys class and there was a class in the front room but I can't remember who was in there. The boys were in the old kitchen. Otis Westmoreland was the teacher for a while. The nursery was relocated from the basement of the church to this building and it was in the back corner in a room across from the kitchen. Cora Irvin was the keeper of the nursery. A library was established in the front corner closest to the church. I helped set up the library as my Eagle Scout Project.  I lived at the corner of Hogan and Cross with my Grandmother and Grandfather- it's now a paved parking lot of the church."
