The Maysville Presbyterian Church was organized June 22, 1878, from an earlier church at Gillsville. This organizational meeting was conducted by Rev. Groves H. Cartledge in the Maysville Institute. Services were held in the Maysville Institute until a church building was constructed in the fall of 1883. There were 19 charter members. The first Elders were T. A. E. Evans and James Ray. The first Deacons were Walter R. Brock and T. J. Carr. Membership declined after World War II and the church was dissolved 14 Oct 1969. 1879-0822 FN: Next Sunday will be the regular time for the Presbyterians to hold service here, and their meeting may be protracted. 1880-0123 FN: The Presbyterian minister, Mr. Cartledge, will continue to preach here. 1880-0827 FN: Rev. Mr. Hoyt, of Albany, who is seeking health in Maysville, preached an excellent sermon Saturday night. 1882-0616 JH: The Rev. Mr. Hoyt and family are in
town. We understand he anticipates locating here permanently. 1882-0929 JH: The membership of the Presbyterian Church met on last Saturday, their regular appointment, to call a preacher, which resulted in the call of Rev. Mr. Hoyt to the pastoral care of the church for the year 1883. (note: H. F. Hoyt was pastor of Maysville Presbyterian Church from 1883-1889) 1889-1895: G. H. Cartledge, pastor, Maysville Presbyterian Church (Ref:
HBC p. 86)
