1879 Sept. 30:  The town of Maysville is incorporated by an Act of the General Assembly of Georgia.  The first mayor of the town is James J. Meaders, one of its pioneer citizens.  Commissioners included Hugh Atkins, George E. Deadwyler, Thomas J. Carr, P. P. Casey and Perino Boone.

1884: City charter amended to appoint new commissioners since "government of said town was never organized by reason of the death and removal of a majority of commissioners provided therefore in the Act of incorporation."  Those appointed included Hugh Atkins, W. J. Comer, M. P. Alexander, G. W. Brown and H. H. Hale to replace George E. Deadwyler, Thomas J. Carr, P. P. Casey and Perino Boone.  The corporate limits were reduced from 3/4 of a mile from the Northeastern Railroad depot to 1/2 mile from the depot.

1901  Mayor T. J. Carr and Mr. W. N. LeMaster of Maysville were over last Monday on business, and also to see the manufacturing plant of Jefferson.  They say they want their town to build up, and are going to do all they can to build factories and improve the industrial condition, and are real glad to see other towns about them making great strides in industrial progress and advancement.  Mayor Carr is one of the leading spirits of his town, and has done a great deal in arousing his people to action in industrial matters.

1903 Mr. B. F. Carr of Maysville was in (Jefferson) this week.  He says that his town has only one case of smallpox—one of the assistants in the school.  He says that every precaution has been taken by the municipal authorities of Maysville to prevent the spread of the malady, and if any more cases at all develop, there will be only a few.  He hopes they will have only this one case.  Mr. Carr has served the people of Maysville very acceptably as mayor for two years, and he now retires from office with the goodwill of his entire town.
