Bernice Carr
Bernice Doss Carr, 76, of 569 Deadwyler Road, died Thursday, Dec. 12,
2002. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Carr was a daughter of the late
Embry and Flonie Black Doss and was the widow of Henry Carr. She was a
homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. James Dumas
officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Henrietta Thrasher, Carlton; a son, Jeff
Carr, Maysville; a sister, Mildred Jordan, Maysville; a brother, James
Doss, Maysville; and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends
from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eva Griffin
Eva Redmon Griffin, 85, of 2321 Georgia Highway 98, died Wednesday, Dec.
11, 2002. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Griffin was a daughter of the
late Joe and Mandy Baker Redmon and was the widow of Barnell Griffin. She
was a retired quiltmaker for Blue Bell Manufacturing and was a member of
Grove Level Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie
Griffin, and a son, Barney Griffin. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at
Grove Level Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Appling, David Bailey and
Gerald Mitton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Abney, Kennesaw, Martha Cotton,
Homer, and Joyce Griffin, Maysville; three sons, Billy Griffin, Jefferson,
Bobby Griffin, Athens, and Jerry Griffin, Maysville; a sister, Pauline
Nunn, Commerce; 19 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. The family
will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home,
Commerce.

Ronnie Cochran
Ronald Cecil Cochran Sr., 50, of 75 W. Ridgeway Road, died Thursday, Nov.
21, 2002. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Cochran was a son of the late
Cecil and Edna Sue Weldon Cochran. He was the owner of Cochran's Small
Engine Repair and was a member of Maysville Baptist Church. Services will
be at 3 p.m. today at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Revs. Swayne
Cochran and Bill Manus officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Payne Cochran; two daughters, Tammy
Gallman, Cornelia, and Christy Hubbard, Maysville; a son, Ronald C.
Cochran Jr., Maysville; a sister, Yvonne Payne, Homer; three brothers, Al
Cochran and David Cochran, both of Maysville, and Tim Cochran, Crawford;
and three grandchildren. Little-Ward Funeral Home has charge of
arrangements.

Miriam Blankenship
Miriam E. Blankenship, 78, formerly of Maysville, died Thursday, Aug. 15,
2002. Mrs. Blankenship was a daughter of the late Paul and Wilma Wood
Webb. She was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist
Church of Maysville. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel
Blankenship. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today at First United
Methodist Church of Maysville with the Rev. Claude Smithmire officiating.
Private burial will be Sunday in the Maysville Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Blankenship; a daughter, Susan Hearn,
Lawrenceville; a son, Paul Blankenship, Homer; two sisters, Julia Savage,
Maysville, and Vivian Langford, Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. Ivie Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Dr. Henry Bradford Morris
Dr. Henry Bradford Morris, 92, died Friday, July 12, 2002. A native of
Maysville, Dr. Morris was a son of the late William Franklin and Mary
Parks Morris. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and Emory
University and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had a medical
practice in Birmingham from 1945 until his retirement in 2000, served as
company doctor for Sloss Sheffield and was a clinical professor of surgery
at the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine. He was on
staff at many Birmingham hospitals and was a member of the Birmingham
Surgical Society, the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Medical
Association of the State of Alabama, the American Medical Association, the
Emeritus Club of St. Vincent's Hospital, the 801 Breakfast Club, The Club,
Vestavia Country Club and Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. Graveside services
will be at 11 a.m. today at Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Billingsley Morris; two daughters,
Susan Morris Cameron, Atlanta, and Brenda Morris Dixon, Wilmington, N.C.;
a son, Henry Bradford Morris Jr., Maysville; a sister, Helen Morris
Reynolds, Mechanicsburg, Penn.; and two brothers, William Franklin Morris,
Hazlehurst, and Dr. Joseph Henry Morris, Panama City, Fla. Memorials may
be made to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at UAB
Medical School, 720 20th St. S., Kaul Human Genetics Building, Birmingham,
AL 35294. Little-Ward Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gene
Mintz
James Ellery Mintz, 65, died Monday, May 27, 2002. A native of Banks
County, Mr. Mintz was a son of the late Watson ''Tood'' Mintz and Bessie
Jane Hooper Mintz. He was a retired truck driver, a U.S. Navy veteran and
was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ivie
Funeral Home with the Revs. Dwayne Ryals and Paul Morris officiating.
Burial will be in the Mintz-Anderson Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Mealor Mintz; a daughter, Patricia
Mintz Patrick, Maysville; three sons, Terry Mintz, Lula, Mike Mintz,
Maysville, and Jeff Mintz, Oakwood; three sisters, Hilda Ward and Joyce
Denton, both of Maysville, and Texas Hortman, Roberta; a brother, Pete
Mintz, Maysville; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and
nephews.

Edith Johnson
Edith Marsh Johnson, 88, of 349 Sims St., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002. Mrs.
Johnson was a daughter of the late William Wheeler Marsh and Minnie Morris
Marsh and the widow of Monte Paul Johnson. She was a homemaker and a
member of Talmage Heights Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 2
p.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Hulon Hill
officiating.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hall, Maysville; four grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren. Little-Ward Funeral Home has charge of

J. B. Byers
J.B. Byers, of 774 West Freeman St., formerly of Canton, Ohio, died
Tuesday, April 9, 2002. Mr. Byers was a son of Katie Bruce,
Lawrenceville. He was retired from the Timken Co., Canton,
Ohio. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Sunrise Cemetery
with the Rev. Phillip Banister officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Shirley Byers; two
daughters, Tammy James and Pamela Young, both of Maysville; two sons, Jay
B. Byers Jr., Canton, Ohio, and Arthur Byers, Maysville; two sisters, Lois
Jean Henson, Mount Airy, and Shirley Brownlee, Lawrenceville; four
brothers, Frank Byers and Sonny Byers, both of Canton, Ohio, Verlin Byers,
Commerce, and Terry Byers, Maysville; seven grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Reed
Funeral Home, Canton, Ohio. Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, has charge of
local arrangements.

Glynn Boswell
Glynn Boswell, 73, of 224 Church St., died Sunday, March 31, 2002. A
native of Jackson County, Mr. Boswell was a son of the late Charlie T. and
Zora Bryan Boswell. He was a fence builder and an army veteran, and was a
member of Homer American Legion Post 215 and Banks Cattleman's
Association. He attended Unity Christian Church. Services will be at 1
p.m. Tuesday at Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Harris and
Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery.
Survivors include four sisters, Willie B. Sears and Georgialeen Thurmond,
both of Maysville, Mollie Blackwell, Homer, and Laura Livingston, East
Point; and four brothers, Bryan Boswell, Carnesville, Charles Boswell,
Fairmont, George Boswell, Commerce, and Journey R. Boswell, Maysville.

Rachel Turner
Rachel Turner, 52, of 34 Crane St., died Saturday, March 9, 2002. A
native of Clarke County, Mrs. Turner was a daughter of the late William
Howard and Martha Dean Bond Parr. She was a seamstress at Mount Vernon
Mills. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Y. Emmett, Maysville; a son, Timmy L.
Daniel, Maysville; a sister, Elizabeth Nunn, Winder; four brothers,
Michael L. Parr, Lawrenceville, Steven T. Parr, Maysville, Paul A. Parr,
Covington, and Tommy J. Parr, Athens; and three grandchildren.

D. Parker
James D. Parker, 82, of 18 N. Main St., died Monday, March 4, 2002. A
native of Georgia, Mr. Parker was a son of the late J.O. and Carrie Gailey
Parker and was the widower of Kathryn Parker. He was a retired carpenter
and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of
Solid Rock Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sold
Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Swayne Carlan officiating. The body will
be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Boswell, Maysville; a son, James B.
Parker, Stuart, Fla.; a brother, Harold E. Parker, Indian Town, Fla.;
eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Edith McDonald
Mrs. Edith Mae Miller McDonald, 90, of Maysville, died Sunday, March 3,
2002, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce. Mrs. McDonald was born January 4,
1912, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Will and Ada
Ragsdale Miller. Mrs. McDonald was a retired bookkeeper from Belks in
Commerce and served as City Clerk of Maysville. She was a member of
Maysville United Methodist Church. Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by
her first husband, Bill Thompson, her second husband, G.L. Oldham, her
third husband, W.C. McDonald, and a brother, Bryant Miller. Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the chapel of
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Edwin Smith officiating.
Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include one son, Robert E. “Bobby” Thompson, Maysville; one
daughter, Helen McClure, Tullahoma, Tenn.; one sister, Helen Harbin,
Commerce; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Little-Ward
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Douglas West
Kenneth Douglas West, 56, of 234 Jade Way, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002. A
native of Barrow County, Mr. West was a son of the late Dewey and Lucille
Herbert West. He was a staff manager with American General Life Insurance,
and was a member of First Baptist Church, Commerce. Services will be at 2
p.m. today at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Wilson
officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Julie West; two sons, Kasey West and Shane
West, both of Maysville; and a sister, Linda West. Little-Ward Funeral
Home, Commerce, has charge of arrangements.
