RICHARD LEWIS

I have to be selfish here and list my great-grandfather, Richard Lewis. Fact is, I know very little about him and I'm hoping someone out there knows something about him.

The first mention I've found of him is the 1910 Jackson County Census. He was living on the farm of John Thomas White as a laborer, age 60 and widowed. Most likely he had a family already but, shortly after the census was taken, he married Amanda Elizabeth "Minnie" Bell on June 10, 1910 in Banks County. Minnie was widowed as well, having been married to William "Bill" Cochran.

Richard and Minnie had two children, Sharp and Ruth. Sharp was born in 1911 and Ruth was born in 1915. I know that the family lived on the "Wilson place" early on. This was apparently an area around Wilson's Church on the Commerce Road. Sharp walked to school at Wheeler's School with W. J. Reynolds.

Richard died on Dec. 6, 1931, at the age of 88, and was buried at Wilson Station (Wilson's Church) in an unmarked grave. Lewis Short attended the funeral and knew which plot Richard was buried in. Unfortunately, he's passed on and no one seems to know exactly which plot it is now.
Another mystery has been the parents of Richard Lewis. According to his death certificate, his father's name was Richard also and his mother's name appears to be Sallie Lewis. I have been unsuccessful in finding anything on these two.
