J. B. Turner
John B. Turner, 80, of 48 Homer St. died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001. A native
of Henry County, Mr. Turner was a son of the late Daune George Turner and
Wade Hampton Turner. He was a retired salesperson at Rich's, a United
States Army World War II veteran, and a member and elder of Homer
Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunrise Cemetery
with Dr. Wade Bell officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sheridan Turner, Maysville; two
daughters, Daune Dockery, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Sheridan Rushton,
Albany; two sisters, Jean Price, McDonough, and Frances Stephens, Atlanta;
two brothers, Allen Turner, Albany, and Wade H. Turner, Naples, Fla.; and
three grandchildren. Little-Ward Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Quinn O'Kelley
Henri Quinn McElroy O'Kelley, 81, of 9643 Gillsville Road, died Friday,
July 6, 2001.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. O'Kelley was a daughter of the late Lester
Brantley and Paulina Safrona Vaughn McElory. She was a retired purchasing
agent with BJC Medical Center and was a member of Maysville United
Methodist Church. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Maysville United
Methodist Church with the Revs. Grady Jordan and Dugar Strickland
officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Survivors include her husband, James A. O'Kelley; a son, Guy Hudson,
Wrightsville, N.C.; nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Maysville
United Methodist Church, c/o Kim Hannon, P.O. Box, Maysville, Ga. 30558.

Kevin Parson
Kevin Ray Parson, 18, of 309 Mitchell Road died Sunday, May 6, 2001. A
native of Commerce, Mr. Parson was a son of Glenda Beck Parson and Billy
Parson, both of Maysville. He attended Banks County High School and was a
carpenter. He was a member of the Maysville Fire Department. Services will
be at 3 p.m. today at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Swayne
Carlan and Donald Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a sister, Rhonda L. Parson,
Commerce; and grandparents, Hoyt Beck, Homer, Caroldean Beck, Commerce,
Sam Parson, Homer, and Emma Jean Lewallen, Maysville. Ivie Funeral Home
has charge of arrangements.

Robert Gau
Robert Clarence Gau, 69, died Friday, May 4, 2001. A native of Dubuque
County, Iowa, Mr. Gau was born November 15, 1931. He was a son of the late
Clarence C. and Geneva Ann Herkes Gau. Mr. Gau was a veteran of the U.S.
Coast Guard and was retired from Vulcan Materials. A private memorial
service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Gau is survived by a sister, Betty J. Daly, Maysville. Little-Ward
Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Elrod
Mary Lois ''Herring'' Elrod, 77, of 2856 Georgia Highway 98 S. died
Wednesday, April 11, 2001. A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Elrod
was a daughter of the late Winnie Black Elrod and Wake Elrod. She was a
homemaker and was a member of Pope Dr. Baptist Church. Services will be at
10 a.m. Saturday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev.
Brian Stowe officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Eddie Herring, Maysville; a sister, Willie Mae
Chell, Freemont, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stella Lewis
Stella Wilbanks Lewis, 88, of 19 Comer Street, died Friday, April 6, 2001.
Born April 13, 1912 in Stephens County, Mrs. Lewis was a daughter of the
late Oliver Doyle Wilbanks and Lula Hooper Wilbanks. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Sharp Lewis, and a son, Regis Lewis. Visitation will
be 7 PM to 9 PM Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce.
Services will be Sunday, April 8, 2001, at 3 PM in the chapel of Ivie
Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial will be in Grove Level Baptist Church
Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include sons Jack Lewis, Telvia Lewis, Robert Lewis, and Jerry
Lewis, all of Maysville; daughters Mary Lou Glore, of Mt. Airy, Henrietta
Dorsey, of Maysville, and Penny Jordan, of Gainesville; a sister, Lois
Harper, of Rutledge, 28 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Doris Chambers
Doris Bennett Chambers, 57, of 145 Hogan St. died Monday, March 19, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Chambers was a daughter of the late Bush
and Maebell Harper Bennett and was the widow of H.C. Chambers. She was
employed by Barrow Manufacturing Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Riverside Baptist Church with the
Revs. Bill Manus and Charles Morrison officiating. The body will be placed
in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Queen, Homer, and Susan Ryles,
Gillsville; a son, David Chambers, Maysville; and four grandchildren. The
family is at 1087 Henderson Road, Gillsville. Little-Ward Funeral Home,
Commerce, has charge of arrangements.

Tommy
Sims
Tommy Joe Sims, 53, of 8373 Maysville Road died Wednesday, March 14, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Sims was a son of Lucille McGinnis Sims,
Maysville, and the late Billy Joe Sims. He was retired as a sheet metal
worker and was a member of Maysville Baptist Church. Services will be at
11 a.m. Friday in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville, with the Revs. Brian Stowe,
Larry Joe Wilbanks and Jordan Weldon officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Benita Carroll
Sims; a daughter, Joy Hardy, Commerce; two sons, Jacob Sims and Jason
Sims, both of Maysville; a sister, Terry Wilbanks, Harriman, Tenn.; and a
granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of
the donor's choice. The family is at the residence and will receive
friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.

Aldah L. Westmoreland
Aldah L. Westmoreland, 86, of 8308 Maysville Road died Monday, Feb. 19,
2001. Mrs. Westmoreland was a daughter of the late Columbus V. and Ann
Jeanetta McDonald Wilson. She was a housewife. Services will be at 2 p.m.
today at Maysville Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Stowe officiating.
Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Otis Westmoreland; a daughter, Mariane
Wilson, Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Ivie
Funeral Home, Commerce, has charge of arrangements.

Fannie Cowart
Fannie Cowart, 79, of 9391 Gillsville Road, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001. A
Georgia native, Mrs. Cowart was a daughter of the late Hoyt and Mary Olive
Day Adams, and was the widow of Hiram Shewbert and Hoyt Cowart. She was a
homemaker. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Maysville Baptist Church
with the Revs. Brian Stowe and Les Vinloan officiating. Burial will be in
Gillsville Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Crumley, Maysville; a son, James
Shewbert, Powder Springs; a sister, Martha Buffington, Norcross; five
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce,
has charge of arrangements.

Dora Smith
Dora B. Smith, 94, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. A native of Towns County,
Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late David Jasper Underwood and Julia
Elizabeth Clark. She was a homemaker. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at
Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial will be in
the Harmony Christian Church cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Sims, Byron; three sons, B. Paul
Smith, Pleasanton, Calif., Jack T. Smith and James R. Smith, both of
Maysville; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven
great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m.
today at the funeral home.

Mabel Mathis
Mabel Miles Mathis, 78, of 156 Hoke St., died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001.
Mrs. Mathis was a daughter of the late C.E. and Vannie Wilkes Hillard, and
was the widow of Frank Mathis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the
Edwin Smith officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Park.
Survivors include three daughters, Shelby Pace, Maysville, Judy Thomas,
Conyers, and Lindy Smith, Lawrenceville; and a brother, J.C. Hillard, West
End, N.C.
