Elbert Mabry
Elbert Cecil Mabry, 76, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, at his residence.  Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late A.G. and Vesta Bond Mabry. He was a retired real estate agent, member of the Maysville Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Mabry was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Nell Seabolt; and a brother-in-law, Bill Seabolt.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Nell Busha Mabry, Maysville; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Tori Mabry, Maysville; daughter, Lora Daisy Mabry, Maysville; brother and sister-in-law, Goldman and Helen Mabry, Commerce; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Lamar Benton, Powtown, Va.; grandchildren, Zackery and Kayla Mabry; and special friend, Stella Strickland.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, at 2 p.m., from Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial will be at Sunrise Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, November 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.

Daisy Redmon Shubert
Daisy Lou Shubert, 84, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness. Born in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah S. and Bessie Smith Redmon. Mrs. Shubert was preceded in death by her husband, William Otis Shubert.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Shubert, Maysville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Patsy Garrett and Ray Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Grove Level Cemetery. Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.

Donna Cox Griffin
Donna Jean Griffin, 66, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at her residence.  Born in Cook County, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Bill and Ruth Schwarts Cox, and was retired from the Banks County Department of Family and Children Services. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Griffin; a son, Calvin Griffin; and grandsons, Riley and Tyler Griffin.  She was a foster parent and over the years she had 28 foster children. She was a missionary child and grew up in Africa. She and her husband pastored several churches and her main purpose in life was to serve the Lord.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Christy Griffin, Maysville, Jeremy Griffin, New Mexico; daughters, Cindy Bartow, Angela Mason, Becky Plemmons and Teresa Yale, all of Asheville, N.C., and Elizabeth Wilson, Commerce; brother, Bill Cox Jr., Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Monday, July 13, at Grove Level Baptist Church Chantry with the Revs. Jeff Appling and John Wood officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Grove Level Baptist Church, 1702 Grove Level Rd., Maysville, GA 30558.  Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
 

O. R. Cochran
Obe Richard "O.R." Cochran, 86, died Friday, May 22, 2009, at BJC Medical Center in Commerce.  Born in Banks County, he was the son of the late Obe and Rilla Pritchett Cochran. He was retired from the City of Commerce Water Plant as a supervisor, was of the Baptist denomination, and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II.  Survivors include his wife, Gladys Hardy Cochran, Maysville; sons and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Lisa Cochran, Commerce, and Rusty and Kim Cochran, Maysville; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Bobby Tolbert, Commerce; sisters, Faye Kennedy, Cornelia, and Louise Davidson, Maysville; and seven grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Monday, May 25, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery.  Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
