Descendants of James Jefferson Carr

The James Jefferson Carr Family is one of Maysville's pioneer families.  Throughout Maysville's history, the Carrs have been involved in business and religious interests.  Descendants of this family still live in Maysville today.

James Jefferson Carr was born in South Carolina on April 12, 1808 and died May 16, 1895 in Maysville.  He married Sarah Watkins in 1834 in Jackson County, Georgia.  She was born about 1813 and died in June of 1902 in Maysville.  Both are buried in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.

Frances Adaline Ensley (1838-1908)
Another connection I made today (11/19/2005) while updating my Sunrise Cemetery Records was Adaline Carr Ensley.  The Carr family is one of my favorites to work on as they were involved in so many things to do with Maysville.  When I was studying her burial location today and reading the name Ensley I kept wondering, why is this Ensley buried so close to the Carrs and why does the name Adaline ring a bell.  Then it hit me that she was probably a Carr.  As soon as I got home I looked in census records for an Adaline Carr and there she was listed in the 1850 Jackson Co Census in James Jefferson Carr's household.  Her birth year matched up perfectly.  Then, when I got to the 1900 JC Census, there she was listed as Adaline Ensley living in the household of her nephew Benjamin F. Carr, Sr., along with her husband, James L. Ensley.  I can't help but wonder if husband James is buried in an unmarked grave next to her.  There's certainly space for him.  Hooray, now another Carr grave is identified!  (Update 9/11/2010: An Ensley family descendant confirms that James Lafayette Ensley, husband of Adaline Carr, is buried next to her in an unmarked grave.)
