Of the pioneer families which first occupied the northern end of Jackson County, Georgia, where the village of Maysville would later blossom, the Savalls (later Savilles) have been, and continue to be, an integral part of Maysville's history. It is believed that William Savall, Sr.,(1780-aft 1850) was in this area by 1830.¹ William Savall was married to Polly Harris (1785-aft 1850). Their sons included William Jr., Jonathan and Reuben. His son, William, Jr., (1810-1876) was married in Jackson County in 1844. Isaiah Savall (1801-aft 1861), apparently a close relative, took his family out of this area to Arkansas in 1854-1855. A 1909 map of Banks County, Georgia, lists the W. J. Saville farm as a reference point. It appears the Saville landholdings stretched from the Jackson County side of Maysville across the northern edge of town to the present site of the Saville Family Cemetery on the Maysville-Homer Road. Descendants of this family have served on the Maysville City Council. Carl Saville, a great-grandson of William Sr., ran a successful grocery store in Maysville for a number of years.
