School News
The school year closed officially with the high school commencement exercises, held May 28, in the Maysville Baptist Church.  Fourteen seniors received diplomas at the exercises.  Eunice Stephens was selected as the outstanding student and received a medal.  Larry Sailers was presented a medal for high achievement in agriculture, by Mr. J. P. Maddox, and Gwenelle Sears received the Betty Crocker award for the best homemaker of the local FHA Chapter.  Bill Perry was presented a medal as the outstanding citizen award.

Post-planning week was the week of May 28 immediately following the school.  During this time the teachers complete their permanent records and help prepare the annual report which goes to the county school superintendent.  Also, the bus drivers make an annual report, working with the local principal.

The principal for the last years expressed his deep appreciation for the cooperation and support from all students, parents and teachers and expressed his regret in leaving.

The new school building is rapidly taking shape and a well is being drilled at the new school site to supply the necessary amount of water.  According to County Board member George Deadwyler, plans are being formulated for the grammar school to go in the new building the first week of September, 1956, and then space would be available to remove the partitions from the gym.  The gym was partitioned off into classrooms when the main building burned in 1953.  The high school students will have their classes at the gym, according to plans.

The Maysville School District will be changed as will the number of local trustees under the new consolidation plan.  The new district will be larger and there will be five local trustees instead of three and they will be selected from the entire district.

There were several perfect attendance records during the last school term, mostly by pupils from the grammar grades.
