Personal Column

The following teachers are home for the summer: Miss Frances McCurdy, Mrs. Virginia McDonald, Miss Mary Arnold and Mrs. Ruby Joyce.

Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bradley of Athens were Sunday guests of Mrs. W. J. Blackwell and Miss Nelle Bradley.

Miss Gertrude Payne is visiting her sister in Toccoa.

Mrs. John Miller attended the home demonstration meeting at Rock Eagle 4-H Club Center.

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Howell and daughter spent several days with Mrs. W. B. Thompson and Mrs. And Mrs. Seaborn Ray.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Carr of Gainesville, Fla., and Eugene Fuller, of Decatur, were weekend guests of relatives here.

Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Turner from Lake Worth, Fla., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Miller last week.

Mr. and Mrs. David McCalla and Miss Edith McCalla, of Atlanta, spent several days at the Rogers’ home.

Mrs. L. W. Eberhart is visiting Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Seaton in Hartwell.

Mrs. J. C. Parham and daughter, Mary, were here for several days with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Lyle while Rev. J. C. Parham attended the Southern Baptist Convention in Kansas City, Mo.

Mrs. J. W. Stribling of Atlanta and Mrs. James Meaders of Macon were weekend guests of Mrs. C. J. Meaders.

Miss Hilda McCurdy is taking part in our educational program at Emory University for the next six weeks.

On Sunday, June 3, Miss Mary Arnold graduated from North Georgia College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  Miss Arnold also received a gold honor bar from the college.

Mr. and Mrs. James W. Ray and Mrs. H. J. Ray, from Athens, spent the weekend with Mrs. Ferd Ray.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cook, from Chicopee, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hancock.

Community Center Governing Board Holds Meeting
   Seven members of the governing board of the Maysville Community Center met in official meeting Thursday night, June 7, at the school lunchroom.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved by those present.  Those present included Mrs. Cheek, Mrs. Gailey, Mrs. Ariail, George Deadwyler, Rev. Sam Coker, Mrs. John White, Hoyt Purcell.  The members of the governing board were selected at the previous meeting.  The governing board elected the following slate of officers: George Deadwyler, president; Homer K. Albright, vice president; C. L. Hanley, treasurer.  The governing board selected the following to serve on the recreation committee: Mrs. Ariail, Hoyt Harbin, co-chairs; Mrs. George Deadwyler, Mrs. John White, Mrs. Clinton Gailey, the school principal, the five high school class presidents, five to seven class presidents and other appointees as needed.  The recreation program is slated to begin as soon as the gym is available.  It is hoped it will begin in the early fall.

Local Development Club Holds Meeting
   The Maysville Development Club met May 29 at the club house with J. T. Miller presiding.  Due to the sudden rain which came, there was only a small group present.  They voiced their approval of the clean-up during June and commended the mayor for issuing same.  H. R. Hancock was selected publicity chairman.  The next meeting was set for June 25, 1956.  Meeting adjourned.

Notice
   June 20 has been designated as Clean-Up Day in Maysville Cemetery.  All people who are concerned with the appearance of the cemetery are urged to bring necessary tools and be present on that day.
