Only one issue of the North Georgian published at Maysville has been found: Vol. 7 No. 12 published on Wednesday morning, May 26, 1884.  The newspaper is in pieces and only partial text could be transcribed.  It appears below.

The entertainment provided (day of week missing) night by the pupils of the Maysville Institute was a success in every particular. The school is in a flourishing condition, and Professor Caldwell and his assistants, Misses Meaders and Hord, deserve much credit in the way it is conducted. The Professor is a native of South Carolina, and was educated at one of the best universities in the Old North State—Davidson College, North Carolina. The following was the programme for the evening’s entertainment: Song by the Music Class—“Pleasant School.” This piece was rendered very beautifully and the members of the class are entitled to a great deal of praise for their musical talent. The celebration of that famous sculptor and poet’s birth, Michael Angelo, by the small pupils was one of the most interesting features on the programme, and all did their part admirably. “The Origin of Our (article missing)…story, who heard this little speech were highly delighted. The poem of “David’s Lament Over Absolem,” was rendered by Miss Pauline Deadwyler, and was followed by Miss Margie Alexander in “The Chamber Over the Gate.” These young ladies, both of whom were instructed in elocution by Miss Carrie Hord, seem to be gifted in the dramatic art, and would do credit to any audience. The Criticism Class was the next on the list, and all who participated in this part of the exercises did their utmost to amuse the audience, and a great deal of laughter was created by the blundering expressions made use of in ordinary conversation. The entertainment was concluded with a song, entitled, “The Beautiful Sea,” by the Music Class, the last three verses of which were composed by Miss Flora Meaders.

The Cyclone having passed so near Maysville, and causing such destruction to both life and property (rest of story missing)

(Name missing), one of Maysville’s best citizens, is having his house painted. Mr. Forrester, the talented knight of the brush and bucket, is doing the work. It is now a decided fact that a troupe of burnt cork artists is to be organized at Maysville. Fourteen end men and a brass band have been engaged. Jeff Cox and Ed Anderson will furnish the brass part of the band. The Jackson Herald says: The merchants are selling large quantities of Western meal. They buy it in preference to corn. Talk about protection and high tariff to keep out foreign competition! We think that Georgia needs protection against the Western articles. Mr. George W. Brown has come out in a big advertisement. Read it, and then go to his store and purchase what he has for sale. His goods are all first-class, and anyone trading with him will be treated all right, and besides get a good bargain.

Maysville is to be incorporated. Both Banks and Jackson have been canvassed as far as the neighboring towns, by office seekers. T. J. Carr is the choice of Maysville to represent Banks. We think this is a good choice. Our old friend R. J. Dyar gave us a call yesterday. Come again old fellow every chance.

Candler’s Creek news: More rain. More rest. Small grain looks well considering the severe winter. Mr. J. J. Sisson’s little child is very sick with pneumonia. Mr. S. S. Sims is digging him a large milk pit eight by twelve and six feet deep, but Mrs. Sims says Sam will be some of the milk that will go into it if a cyclone should ever pass through this part of the country. Rev. M. V. B. Lankford preached a very interesting sermon at Candler’s Creek last Sunday to a small but attentive congregation. Mrs. Braselton’s funeral will be preached at Kandler’s Church on the fourth Sunday in May by Rev. M. V. B. Lankford. We learn that some of the lads and lasses in this section will increase the Maysville Institute this week. We hope every family in this section will take the North Georgian.

Homer Academy The exercises of this school will begin on Monday 14th day of Jan. 1884. Tuition $1.00, $2.00, $2.50, and $3.00 per month, according to grade of studies. Pupils will be charged from time of entry until end of the quarter, no deduction for (rest of article missing).
