Crowd Small For Town Meeting
Only 26  people turned out to take part in the town meeting held last Thursday night at Maysville Elementary. Copies of the downtown and park plan were available for viewing and members of both the Beautification Committee and The Downtown Development Authority were on hand to answer questions.  They announced that they are working with the Better Hometown Organization.
Resident Bud Dyer asked if the State Highway Department could be asked to help with the building of sidewalks. It was stated by  council member Scott
Harper that the DDA might be given $10,000 by the city to it's account so that there would be funds for any grants that required matching funds but that amount is not yet set in stone.
Resident Steve Hart asked if the city had any ordinances to make private property owners fix up old buildings and was told by the mayor "Not at this time." Organizer of the meeting, Catherine Daniel, told the group that they had spoken with some investors that they hoped would buy the downtown buildings.
Mayor Presley also announced that the new water line "loop" had been completed and there are still some old lines that will need to be replaced.
Several questions were asked about the Police Department which included one resident asking if the Police Department was equipped with Cable TV and if the citizens were paying for it. Mayor Presley stated
that the Police Department did have Cable TV but the
citizens weren't paying for it. When asked why they had it, the Mayor stated that he would talk to the resident after the meeting.
Chief Armour gave a report on the security lined up for the festival and discussed other grants and donations he had acquired for the Police department.
One resident asked if Maysville was covered 24 hours per day by Police protection and he responded that Maysville could not become a 24 hour per day covered city because that would eliminate any help from the county law enforcement and would mean that
the town would have to hire two more officers and the
town could not afford it. He listed current officers as Full time: himself, Danny Cantrell, Ricky Waters and David Savage. He listed as Part time officers as: Ricky Pope and Kimsey Gray.
Mrs. Daniel announced that there would be another
town meeting in three months.
